“What’s better than being in France? Eating in France”
Debbie Skelton
The FoodnForage Experience
The FoodnForage French Kitchen is located in our house in Montmorillon in the Vienne Department of France. Montmorillon is located on the picturesque Gartempe River about fifty kilometres east of Poitiers. The kitchen has been customised to host intimate workshops creating a friendly home-cook atmosphere.
Our recipes and menus are classic but simple, using back to basics methods and techniques, easily replicated by home cooks. Our goal is for guests to adapt what they have learned at the FoodnForage workshops when they return to their home kitchen.
During our workshop sessions you can choose to participate hands-on, or just enjoy watching as we work through our menu. Our menus are generally one to three courses and have a particular focus on specific techniques.
The carefully curated food and cooking experience starts with coffee and pastries in the cozy workshop kitchen before immersion in our rich French cooking adventure.
Our session may begin with an optional walk to our local markets to forage for local, seasonal produce. The local market is held in the town square, just a short stroll away. We believe in the importance of supporting our local and small producers.
The FoodnForage advertised workshops feature menus using seasonal ingredients obtained from local markets and producers, showcasing the burgeoning regional produce of the Vienne. We strongly adhere to the principles of non-chemical, organic, sustainable and recyclable as much as possible. The seasonal sessions and prices can be viewed on the Workshops Menu at the top of this page.
After preparing and cooking our menu, we move to the FoodnForage dining room featuring a beautifully set table with an eclectic mix of unique collectables, lovingly gathered from brocante markets from all over France. This convivial dining experience is usually our guests favourite part of the workshop, where they chill out and really experience the flavours and the quality of the produce they have just cooked.
We will also be bringing some videos to you while we wait to travel back to France again. So, if you have a particular request for a menu or a technique, such as pastry baking, desserts or maybe to brush up on some cake decorating techniques, this may be arranged by sending an email to foodnforage@gmail.com
We can include these ideas in the videos we bring to you and also in our curated workshop menus.
